DAILY BIBLE PROMISE

** God put His Cross where His Mouth Was - all along! ** Today's Bible Promise is ... "By faith Abraham sojourned in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise." Heb 11:9

MORNING

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.

T HOU art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.--Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. . . . I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.--To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.--I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour.--I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

As he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.--Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?--Ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.--Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

EVENING

They constrained him, saying, Abide with
us.

B EHOLD, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.--Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?--I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go.

Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.--I am come into my garden.--I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain.

Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.--I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.--Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.--The world seeth me no more; but ye see me.

SASSY!

Let's face it - when ya GOT it, ya KNOW it - and it's just hard not to SHOW it! Some things just go without saying! We all know an obvious beauty queen when we SEE one - and this one's GOT to be the 'Gretta Garbo', or 'Mae West' of the gorilla set!

We do tend to get carried away with the physical - don't we?? I mean, living in these bodies, 'n all - it's hard not to. And then there's the whole social thingee - what others think?

So how can we avoid the obvious pitfalls of mortal existence? We can't. That much is clear. We're stuck here - in these bodies - and with all those 'others' - for the duration. Notice the rather casual repose, and the in-yer-face slouch of 'miss pulchritude'? She's here to stay, all right!

Animals seem to be able to take things in their 'stride' better than we humans do. They must be more 'at ease' with God than we are - dew ewe spoze?? It is for sure, that no one is ever more hard on us than we are. No one is in a better position to be critical about us. Except God, of course. HE could be FAR more critical about us than He is - ever notice that? But He isn't. He's Gracious about our foibles and imperfections. Kind. Patient! Not like we are with ourselves.

This young lady seems oblivious to any imperfections in her demeanor - whatsoever! In fact - what she presents to 'others' is just fine with her! If anything, she seems almost proud and pleased with herself! Hmmmmm ..... pride? - in an animal?? O my!

Lord, help me to take myself a little LESS seriously - and You - a whole lot MORE so!

DAILY HYMN (LYRICS & MUSIC)

NEAR THE CROSS

Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvary’s mountain.

Refrain

In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
Sheds its beams around me.

Refrain

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadows o’er me.

Refrain

Near the cross I’ll watch and wait
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.

Refrain

CHRISTIAN STUDY RESOURCES

'The dark pit of ignorance!'

The following is from Spurgeon's sermon,
"The Sinner's End" #486. Psalm 73:17,18

Lack of understanding has destroyed many.

The dark pit of ignorance
has engulfed its thousands!

Where the lack of understanding has not
sufficed to slay, it has been able seriously
to wound.

Lack of understanding upon doctrinal truth,
providential dealing, or inward experience
has often caused the people of God a vast
amount of perplexity and sorrow, much of
which they might have avoided had they been
more careful to consider and understand the
ways (and the Word) of the Lord.
