** God put His Cross where His Mouth Was - all along! ** Today's Bible Promise is ... "Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? and [there is] none upon earth [that] I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: [but] God [is] the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever." Ps 73:25-26

In Job 2:10 it says, "But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips." - and again in 1:21, Job says, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD."

So Lord, today I want to thank you for what You have 'taken away', and for what 'evil has come to me from Your hand' - as was Job's lot.

Though I cannot compare my life with Job's, nor my self with his - even so I too have experienced Your hand against me - from time to time.

And so I would Bless You and thank You for my 'thorn' as well as my 'rose' - for Your Disciplines and Chastisement, as well as Your Instruction and Forgiveness.

We are taught in Hebrews that without these very things, we are "Bastards", and not "Sons of God".

So Lord, I pray - next time I find myself in my Gethsemene - suffering some loss, grief or trouble - grant me Your Grace to 'suck it up', grit my teeth and 'take it on the chin' like the "good soldier" Paul Exhorts of Timothy.

Sitting pretty, are we??

We are in an Age of self-assurance. Folks are just SURE they are where they SHOULD be - that they have 'arrived', and are 'home free' - "Saved ANYWAY!". Such self-assured overconfidence smacks of blatant, hardened denial! And where denial rules, deceit reigns!

The apostle Warns, Exhorts and Admonishes ALL Christians to "EXAMINE SELF - to determine whether we are, or are not - IN THE FAITH (or in our carnal flesh)!" Few will hear him. Ever try warning a soul in denial? BE VERY CAREFUL - they have TEETH!!

When Jesus says that "FEW WILL BE SAVED", most folks ASSUME that must mean them! Just like that! God would not DARE destroy them!! He would not DO such a thing - they surmise. How few is "FEW!"?? Listen to the 'PODCAST AUDIO DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS' for today.

There is not one of us that DESERVES to be Saved! Not one. For any to assume Salvation is tangible proof of just that arrogant pride which God WARS against, and has Vowed to Destroy! We are to "Work OUT our Salvation - with FEAR and with TREMBLING!". But who HEARS this? Who DOES this before God?

This woman in this photo is apparently unaware of the likely, impending doom she's invited by her precarious perch. It is always sad and tragic for folks to learn their errors the hard way. And some consequences are without remedy - and may last a lifetime (and Beyond!).

God has Provided a Remedy for our pride and arrogance - Death - Spiritual Death of self (see Lk 9:23, 14:27). That is - Repentance! If we CAN Repent (apparently, there are some who cannot any further!) - then this is THE WAY that Cost Christ His Very Blood to Deliver as God had Promised - all along.

Lord, help and encourage us to Repent unto You today - before it is too late for us - before even that Remedy is Removed!

Lamp of our feet whereby we trace
Our path when wont to stray;
Stream from the fount of heav’nly grace,
Brook by the traveler’s way.

Bread of our souls whereon we feed,
True manna from on high;
Our guide and chart wherein we read
Of realms beyond the sky.

Pillar of fire, through watches dark,
Or radiant cloud by day;
When waves would break our tossing bark,
Our anchor and our stay.

Word of the ever living God,
Will of His glorious Son;
Without Thee, how could earth be trod
Or Heav’n itself be won?

Yet to unfold thy hidden worth,
Thy mysteries to reveal,
That Spirit which first gave thee forth,
Thy volume must unseal.

Lord, grant us all aright to learn
The wisdom it imparts
And to its heavenly teaching turn
With simple, childlike hearts.

'It has an influence over the life'

(J. C. Philpot, "The Precepts of the Word of God")

"When you received the word of God, which you heard
from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but
as it actually is, the word of God, which effectually
works in you who believe." 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Where God's word effectually works in the heart,
it has an influence over the life. It . . .
separates from the world and the spirit of it;
keeps the consciences alive and tender in the fear of God;
produces uprightness and integrity of conduct;
extends its influence to the various relationships of life;
subdues pride, covetousness, and selfishness;
softens and meekens the spirit;
gives tender feelings and gracious affections;
fosters prayer, meditation, and spirituality of mind; and
makes itself manifest in the life, walk, and conversation.

Pr 10:21
"The lips of the righteous feed many:
but fools die for want of wisdom (sense)."

(lack of God's Wisdom is spiritually LETHAL!)

"Thou knowest that, through our tears of hasty, selfish weeping,
come surer sin - and from our petty fears of loss Thou has, in keeping,

a greater gain than all of which we dreamed - Thou knowest that in grasping the bright possessions, that so precious seemed, we lose them.

But if clasping Thy faithful hand, we tread with steadfast feet, the Path of Thine appointing,
there waits for us a treasure of sweet delight, Royal Annointing,

with Oil of Gladness, and of Strength!"

--Helen Hunt Jackson

"I would Converse with Thee from day to day,
with heart intent on what THOU has to say,

and through my Pilgrim Walk, whatever befall,
Consult with Thee, O LORD, about it all.

Since Thou art willing to Condescend
to be MY Intimate, Familiar Friend -

O let me to the great occasion rise,
and count Thy Friendship Life's most glorious prize!"
