VANITY FAIR!

Ahh, the everpresent, pretty little girl. Gigi!! Dressing up for all it's worth is - well, - it's sooooo much fun!

Yes, and it's cute, too - on the very young.

I suppose few folks give vanity much thought these daZe. I mean, it's a bit old fashioned. But Solomon made this one word THE THEME of His eloquent diatribe about our common mortality. And Ecclesiastes fumes cauldrons of caustic warnings and forebodings about this one subject! Why?

Man-pleasing. God HATES man-pleasing! It's just that simple. This was what turned God's hand-picked monarch, King Saul, against God - and was the primary reason God Repented ever having made Saul King - sent him a demon to torment him, and to hound david - and eventually killed Saul, Personally! Woe - and WOAH!!

It was, after all, this very thing that brought Solomon himself down - in the end. And Solomon had The Very Wisdom of God Given BY GOD'S OWN HAND - DIRECTLY! My, my!! What a FALL! And all from this vanity thingee! The love of this world and the fellowship of the creature.

But this could never happen to us - right? Hmmmm.....

DAILY HYMN (LYRICS & MUSIC)

Abba, Father! We approach Thee
In our Savior’s precious Name;
We, Thy children, here assembled,
Now Thy promised blessing claim;
From our sins His blood hath washed us,
’Tis through Him our souls draw nigh,
And Thy Spirit, too, hath taught us,
Abba, Father, thus to cry.

Once as prodigals we wandered
In our folly far from Thee,
But Thy grace, o’er sin abounding,
Rescued us from misery;
Thou Thy prodigals hast pardoned,
Kissed us with a Father’s love,
Spread the festive board, and called us,
E’er to dwell with Thee above.

Clothed in garments of salvation,
At Thy table is our place,
We rejoice, and Thou rejoicest,
In the riches of Thy grace;
It is meet, we hear Thee saying,
We should merry and be glad,
I have found My once lost children,
Now they live who once were dead.

Abba, Father! all adore Thee,
All rejoice in Heav’n above,
While in us they learn the wonders
Of Thy wisdom, grace, and love;
Soon before Thy throne assembled,
All Thy children shall proclaim,
Glory, everlasting glory,
Be to God and to the Lamb!

CHRISTIAN STUDY RESOURCES

'Everything that was written in the past'

(Anne Dutton's Letters on Spiritual Subjects)

I humbly think that the bondage of the children of
Israel in Egypt, under Pharaoh and his task-masters,
was typical of the cruel bondage of the people of
God in a state of nature, under the tyranny of sin
and Satan and a broken law of works.

Their deliverance from Egypt and passage through
the Red Sea were typical of our deliverance from the
power of darkness, and translation into the kingdom
of God's dear Son at our first conversion.

Their journeys through the desolate wilderness were
typical of our travels through this world of trouble.

Their Land of Promise was typical of our promised rest.

Their passage over Jordan into Canaan was typical
of our passing from this world of sin and sorrow
into the world of joy and glory as our everlasting rest.

"All these events happened to them as examples for
us. They were written down to warn us, on whom
the fulfillment of the ages has come." 1 Cor. 10:11

"For everything that was written in the past
was written to teach us." Romans 15:4

DAILY POEM

"God be with you till we meet again; By His counsels guide, uphold you, With His sheep securely fold you; God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again; Neath His wings protecting hide you; Daily manna still provide you; God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again; With the oil of joy anoint you; Sacred ministries appoint you; God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again; When life's perils thick confound you; Put His arms unfailing round you; God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again; Of His promises remind you; For life's upper garner bind you; God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again; Sicknesses and sorrows taking, Never leaving or forsaking; God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again; Keep love's banner floating o'er you, Strike death's threatening wave before you; God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again; Ended when for you earth's story, Israel's chariot sweep to glory; God be with you till we meet again.
