Well, it's about TIME!!

Actually, we don't really know just WHAT time really IS. I mean, we have all of these notions - and how time and gravity are supposed to be THE basic or fundamental forces in the universe - but even all that is so vague as to be useless. It all just leaves us rather breathless!

Man knows nothing of eternity - except that God Describes it. Even then, we cannot grasp it, as we are creatures of TIME - that is, mortal - limited. Even so, God makes it very clear He has Expectations of what we do-with His gift of mortal time.

Solomon said that God had placed Eternity into man's 'heart' - in such a way that man would be aware of its Existence - but so that man could not 'find out' (discover) what God had DONE from the Beginning to the End (Ecc3:10-11). (Sounds like a contradiction - eh?!)

There are Mysteries of God wrapped up in His Seasons. Apparently, time is one of them. There will 'come a time' (Season) when time will be no more (will have past). Because of this, I cannot help but view time in terms of Opportunity - as I do also with Grace (Age).

We get up each new day and begin to go through the motions - as though we KNEW this new day - (and we do not!) - and so we assume we know what time is. We COUNT the time as it passes us by - we MARK it as if it were no more than that to be measured - and that by man! But it is GOD Who Marks Time and He does so FROM ETERNITY!

Lord, help us never take You nor Your Opportunities for granted! Make us AWARE of just how Precious this TIME we have is - and KEEP us on the Alert and Watchful as to it's use (Stewardship), we pray - in Christ's Name, Amen!

DAILY HYMN (LYRICS & MUSIC)

Up to the throne of God is borne
The voice of praise at early morn,
And he accepts the punctual hymn
Sung as the light of day grows dim:

Nor will He turn His ear aside
From holy offerings at noontide:
Then here reposing let us raise
A song of gratitude and praise.

What though our burthen be not light,
We need not toil from morn to night;
The respite of the mid-day hour
Is in the thankful creature’s power.

Blest are the moments, doubly blest,
That, drawn from this one hour of rest,
Are with a ready heart bestowed
Upon the service of our God!

Each field is then a hallowed spot,
An altar is in each man’s cot,
A church in every grove that spreads
Its living roof above our heads.

Look up to Heaven! the industrious sun
Already half his race hath run;
‘He’ cannot halt nor go astray,
But our immortal spirits may.

Lord! since his rising in the East,
If we have faltered or transgressed,
Guide, from Thy love’s abundant source,
What yet remains of this day’s course:

Help with Thy grace, through life’s short day,
Our upward and our downward way;
And glorify for us the west,
When we shall sink to final rest.

CHRISTIAN STUDY RESOURCES

'A shelf in my head?'

Spurgeon, "Christ- The Power and Wisdom of God"

Before I knew the gospel I gathered up a heterogeneous
mass of all kinds of knowledge from here, there, and
everywhere-- a bit of chemistry, a bit of botany, a bit of
astronomy, and a bit of this, that, and the other.
I put them altogether, in one great confused chaos.

When I learned the gospel, I got a shelf in my head
to put every thing away upon just where it should be.

It seemed to me as if, when I had discovered Christ and him
crucified, I had got the center of the system, so that I could
see every other science revolving around in order.

From the earth, you know, the planets appear to move in a
very irregular manner- some are progressive, retrograde,
stationary, etc. But if you could get upon the sun, you would
see them marching round in their constant, uniform, circular
motion.

Likewise with human knowledge. Begin with any other
science you like, and truth will seem to be amiss.
But if you begin with the science of Christ crucified, you will
begin with the sun- you will see every other science moving
around it in complete harmony.

The greatest mind in the world will be evolved
by beginning at the right end.

The old saying is, "Go from nature up to nature's God."
But it is hard work going up hill.
The best thing is to go from nature's God down to nature;
and if you once get to nature's God, and believe him and love
him, it is surprising how easy it is to hear music in the waves,
and songs in the wild whisperings of the winds; to see God
everywhere, in the stones, in the rocks, in the rippling
brooks, and hear him everywhere, in the lowing of cattle, in
the rolling of thunder, and in the fury of tempests.

Get Christ first, put him in the right place, and you will find
him to be the wisdom of God in your own experience.

DAILY POEM

Sleep sweetly in this quiet room, O thou whoe'er thou art,

And let no mournful yesterdays disturb thy peaceful heart.

Nor let tomorrow scare thy rest with thoughts of coming ill.

Thy Maker is thy changeless friend; His love surrounds thee still.

Forget thyself and all the world, put out each feverish light;

The stars are watching overhead, sleep sweetly then, goodnight.
